Ok I saw this one after the first post...

Hes totally cute and gorgeous but this clip had me HOWLING... so tardified?!... and genius!... I wish I had another word besides "tard" I really do, I actually dont like using it because I think its insensitive but it is just SO ACCURATE some times but I really want you to know I dont like it when I use it or when other people do. I mean I use ridiculous in its place a lot but I cant think of another word that really has that hook that "tard" does, if you know of another word that works as well let me know... and if you dont know at least understand Im sensitive to it and do not mean to be cruel with its usage at all!!! I just use it because it is so right on sometimes it seems no other word could do as good as a job!! Thats why I take the "re" off I feel like that might reduce the connotation just a smidge but still deliver the meaning.

The guy's not that buff, but yeah, he's cute. But he does look at bit "tard" walking around like that. He even walks kind of pigeon toed like they do in the cowboy movies. Too much time wrapped around a horse? Corny is another, nicer word, but not as descriptive.

historically there have been a LOT of words that mean "retarded" but then, after time, they develop a negative "insensitive" connotation... it's kind of weird, it's like the first community to get any kind of PC treatment, by a large margin. i mean, they say 'special' now, and now you can't say something's special without it seeming like you're calling it retarded. other words in this category include 'idiot' 'imbecile', 'cretin' 'demented' 'mongoloid' and 'moron' etc etc. it's interesting, because the effort to be sensitive always seems to render the 'gentle' term horrible over the course of time. anyway, retard used to be a verb, not a noun that meant 'to slow down or impede' and NOW it's a noun that applies to people. i feel like there is a difference between calling someONE a retard and saying that someTHING is retarded, but that's just me. i guess it's similar to the whole "that's gay" dischord, which i admit, i DO resent.

Oh man, you're making me think about shit that i say now... i OFTEN say stuff like 'are you ok? should you be wearing a helmet or something?"

damn it, david! you have retarded my insensitivity!

So is it thought of as really bad to call someone a retard when they do something done? Like you say, youreviltwin, the words keep changing, so maybe we can use it again on people who are DOING something dumb. I hear it all the time. I kinda like it myself. It's more of joke than calling someone stupid or idiot. Then again I'm not very PC.

Re: retarded

OK, so first they say we can't use it for "those" people--the correct terms are "developmentally disabled" or whatever. Fine! Glad to do my part to make the world a nicer place.

Then they say we can't use it in any other context either? If "retarded" doesn't mean the thing that "developmentally disabled" means now, why can't we use it for "silly, lacking, humorously short of the mark"? If they're not using the word, do they get to hog it from everyone else too? I'd think they'd be glad to see it taking on a new life of its own away from the people they're supposedly protecting. They're retarded.
