THIS IS THE ROOM PIC IN REFERENCE TO MY QUESTION BELOW

Now maybe you can see why im leaning toward the tall rectangle one but I do think whoever said I might hate it in two years might be right... that makes it more difficult the more styled it is the more you love it and then the more you hate it.... Let me know what you think.
See now Im leaning toward the riviera (the quilted one) and not the tallboy because I think it might look too much in black and is the same height as the lamp, but is it just the treachery of photoshop?????

The tall black one is too dominant in that corner...It kinda draws your eye straight to it, initially for the wrong reason. Its kinda jarring. It is, however, a gorgeous chair. The quilted one works better in that space in my opinion. I would never get tired of looking at it. :)

This is about your chairs. Definately go with the tufted chair. There is a bit of heaviness in the vignette you show-the dresser, the tv, the rectangular silver object on the right. The heaviness needs some relief, so go with the tufted chair. It will pick up the curves in the lamp. Also, just a thought...maybe the dresser could use a bit of editting. Remove something. Create some empty space in the vignette. A bit of color would be good too. BTW, I love the dresser and both chairs.

Looking at them in the room really
helps and again the first chair
although I really like the style
is just to low and straight for my
tastes.

Definitely the quilted one. But loose the lamp! It interferes with the look. And hanging the flatscreen TV to 5' height will help.

Yeah I think I need to do the quilted one now but im not losing the lamp, i love the lamp there :) Im not gonna hang the tv , the wall is only empty because i havent got whats going there yet.... which is a full body taxidermy snarling wolf.. its fierce...literally

Oh yeah, the quilted one now that I see that pic. And it will be in leather right? Someone made a comment before about stains on velvet after a few years and they're right about that.

I vote for the chair with the belly buttons!

Wow! A full taxidermy wolf! That must be a huge piece! I bet it is gorgeous! Then I would definitely go with the smaller chair; no questions about it. But, why not buy both, you have the space in the apartment for it and could use the spare chair elsewhere. Then you could switch them out if you get bored. Just a thought.

David: I think you have too many "styles" going on at the same time. The TV and the cabinet are modern looking, and the lamp really doesn't fit. I would get a more modern lamp and get the velvet chair so everything looks
20th century. Put the lamp and the quilted chair in another corner. That's it!~ Buy both

The Riviera is GROSS, burn it!
The tall rectangle needs a twin and needs to be somewhere else in the house... anywhere but there.
Buy a shorter, padded, masculine, preferably leather chair in a color other than black for that corner.
You're Welcome!

you cant find a masculine leather wingback chair that isnt cheapo or has skank legs, theyre all very "skank office furniture". Nobody is making chairs like that anymore in shinier leather with black legs.

The quilted one is priceless... whereas the rectangle one screams design-for-design sake and doesn't look comfortable.
Meanwhile with all the rectangular action you've pointed out, the quilted one would look alive.
And just from an aesthetic view, the quilted one looks way more original, chic and expensive. And it has a manly quality different from the boutique-hotel-ness of the up-tight square-back.

But man, the burnt collection was gorge!

David Mason said...

ok im gonna go with the cushioned one then for sure. everyone hates the hotel boutiquey one. I like the cushiony one more now anyways... now i need to find an old studded trunk to use as a hamper.

Yeah, now that it's visualised like this, I prefer the riviera. Its roundedness softens the boxiness surroundings. So, get that one. :)

I still LOVE the tall one but in the room it is a giant rectangle no. Quilty tufted already says "Im home" in the photo.

I see why the dilemma . i personally solidly like the rectangular one for the space. Even two would be fabulous. its linear and masculine and dominating yes - but dominating in a scale and lines that is similar to all the straight lines and angles of the furniture and the room itself - and consider the addition of the the fierce object d'art going on the wall beside it - it will act like a frame to the art .
I would buy a pair of those rectangular chairs in a heart beat !!

the queen anne looking one is fabulous!

The tall-backed rectangular chair looks like you could actually sit on on it, slouch in it, drape your leg(s) over the arms....and it could be paired-up with a capacious foot stool for added functionality - even a quilted stool! A man would look good in that chair at all times.

The quilted chair is for perching on and looking at...hard to imagine it paired with any kind of function-enhancing stool that would moderate the fussiness. Can't imagine wanting to look at a man sitting in that chair, except for an infrequent ironic giggle.

I prefer the tall chair, BUT I don't like the way it looks in the corner. Too big. The quilted one fits better, and looks better, but I hate the chair. I get the faux antique irony thing, but in my opinion it just looks kinda cheap in a Puerto Rican grandma trying to be classy kinda way.
Your pad, your tastes, but I'd go with a different chair all together. Or you could just fuck it all and move to LA. :)

It's kinda hard to for us to decide coz the chairs are empty. You must sit on it (no clothes on) although I can hear Riviera saying "pick me, pick me!"

the tall rectangle one looks way too Catholic.
the tufted quilted one looks fetish.

fetish all the way!

The quilted one would give me boner kill. It's nice but kinda dainty -- looks like something one of those auntie queens w/way too many fussy antiques would have. Go w/that one & ur tricks will question ur age.

Too tall and too boxy. Something lower, rounder, and softer would look better.

Either works, but I almost think the tall, rectangular chair is too oppressive and plain.

if the rectangular one is just taller than the lamp (i didn't notice if you could adjust the lamp shorter), get it. the tufted is, a) a rip-off of david barton's decor which i know you live for, but you're being unduly influenced by in your new home and you'll regret it later...and b) too medieval (if there can be such a thing)/Steak & Ale...

on the other hand, the tall rectangular one is fierce. it's so ultra-straightbacked it's FETICHE DOWN!! there is no OTHER!!!

and screw the argument you'll get tired of it... that's no reason not to get what you want now... who knows where you'll be in the five years it takes for it to get old. plus, you will never, never, never, EVER get tired of sitting it in for a "morticia" moment. it's PERFECT for it!
