Rupauls Drag Race Season 6 Episode 2 Review... Courtney Acts unimpressive debut.

After an unimpressive showing of group one we were all waiting for Group two which was clearly the dominant group of the two. Group 1 came off as REGIONAL "talents" and Group 2, save for the clearly terrible Magnolia Crawford who couldnt even define herself showing she had no idea what was going on and shouldnt even be there, was at their worst still better then the best of group one. Milk, Courtney, Trinity, Bianca, Darienne, even Jocelyn despite her lack of style all had very dynamic presence.
If you watched the "Meet the queens" bios online Courtney makes the most impressive impression. Shes beautiful, talented, and came off as casual, fun, and "real" and I was excited to see her. One of life's keys to happiness is to lower your expectations, its a rule I ALWAYS FORGET which is why Im often a MISERABLE CUNT. I did it yet again with Courtney. After that preview and her reputation that preceded her I really was expecting much more. I have to say Im sadly disappointed. I feel she came off as kind of UNKIND and her runway look was empty, uncreative, and uncharming, and I wasn't seeing the body that the judges saw. Is she gorgeous, yes, is she passable, of course. Is that enough, I dont think so. I thought her Untucked talk about fucking straight guys wasnt about the subject at hand but clearly about her "flexing her fishiness" and the subtext of the entire conversation was "I pass, you don't, fear me." and I get it, its pretty girl warfare, but I thought bigger of her. I was hoping for more of a Goldie Hawn with a fierce edge, not Nicole Richie. Im also aware though that the producers are well aware of Courtney being the very clear lead in this race before the show even started so its also very possible they edited the worst of her to down play her to make the build up more interesting and Id love to see that because I do like Courtney a lot and Id love to see her win me over yet again.
Unlike Courtney someone who I had a negative pre-existing opinion on was Bianca Del Rio. I just never thought she was funny before. This episode she impressed me. Could she maybe stop firing off the quips in hopes to assert herself, yes please. Clever quips are impressive when timed correctly, when its done incessantly it comes off as desperate, needy, and controlling. Im not saying Bianca is desperate, I was impressed, but if she continues with trying to assert herself, which she doesnt have to I BELIEVE HER already, then I think she could win this thing. I again disagreed with the judges and found her make up totally impressive, like REALLY GOOD. That pinkie dab of iridescent indigo on the upper cheek was CHIC and is the little kind of thing that sets you apart from the some pageant queen. The dress she made was impressive as well. Who didnt impress me with their look was Milk. Again here I go raising my expectations and end up being let down. It wasnt THAT BAD, but I was expecting more. The look was convoluted and BLURRY, though I did appreciate her making pants! It wasnt the worst of the looks by any measure. I think the worst two looks were Courtney and Magnolia, not Darienne who was choosen to go in the bottom two. Darienne is operating on an insane degree of difficulty.
The name MAGNOLIA CRAWFORD, has immediately become an insult on the level of India Farrah (but not THAT BAD). Just this morning I sent a rotten text to my friend calling him HER saying "Today is a brand new world for you Magnolia. Its only up from here!" Poor Maggy, now Ive heard of "brown nosing" but THIS IS RIDICULOUS?! That nose SMEAR was so strange?! Id looked at her pics before and the pencil sharp contouring was kinda brilliant, like a COMMENT on nose contouring, not a MISTAKE but this was... this was... "Magnolia are you ok??" Like I dont know how that happened?!. She needed to go anyways. She didnt know what she was. I didnt know why she was there. It was a wreck. She basically walked in the room, found out it was just the seven of them, realized she was fucked, blamed an inanimate object and left in a huff. She might stab immigrants.
Jocelyn, Joselyn?? I dunno how you spell her name. She's not annoying yet and I actually like her. Shes more clever then the other queens give credit and I think she does her own thing and I feel bad that shes poor and her shoes were missing large chunks of swarowskis and her braclets are actually from the dollar bin (Ive seen them there at MR Joes on 36th and 8th). I think she sheems sweet, she strong enough to make herself vulnerable and so far I like her quite a bit. Do I want to hang with her, Im not so sure, but I like her. She seems genuinely kind and that is rare. Kindness is something I feel Trinity K Bonet is not receiving enough off. SHES FIERCE!?. Was her costume too goopey and cheap? TOTALLY but shes 22 and it was still better then everyone elses besides Bianca. I have a rule about being mean. I can be a pretty vicious mother fucker but Im not going to make fun of someone until they open themselves up to it by making fun of someone else or are committing an EGREGIOUS ACT OF TRYORY. Trinity has not yet been a twat and everyone is making fun of her teeth. Thats honestly just mean. You think she doesnt know that?! Can you imagine what it would be like to smile and SCARE PEOLE? It would be AWFUL and anyone who had the money to fix it WOULD. She clearly doesn't, she has enough $$$ for a grill when she performs but thats it and I think making fun of her fucked up teeth is unfair. I havent seen anything from my end that merits the balancing of scales by use of insult. Shes just been herself and nice and is receiving a curiously cruel amount of hate from perfect looking people on Facebook. I just try to put myself in her shoes and if when I was trying to express joy or happiness or kindness and people MADE FUN OF ME, Id think the world was a rotten place. Hopefully after the show Trinity will have enough dough to fix her chompers. I think shes quite impressive and I hope she goes far and gives these other, perhaps more privileged, beauties a run for their money.

I was actually disappointed by group two. There were MANY MISSES (I can only remember the bad contestants by party -- the Ho Down, Quincie, St. Patricks and the Republican Party (poor gal didn't know the color for the Republicans is RED, not blue). And Milk, It's Drag Race, not Syfy's Face Off! Leave the monsters to the Syfy channel. I'm rooting for Gia Gunn!

Hmmm Well my concept for drag isnt so literal. Like I think Courtney who wore blue wore blue because thats what she was given not to mention it wast about looking the theme it was just about doing something in the theme. Milk I think is doing it right. Im bored with lady wig and lady face. I want to see something more interesting. Drag to me isnt FEMALE, its CHARACTER so you can be whatever you want in my opinion.

Gia Gunn is LOW RENT and NOT BRIGHT and SHORT and has horrible legs and worse style! :( Sorry thats just my opinion. you're fully entitled to yours :)

Who is the true "club kid". Vivacious vs Milk. Where does Vivacious come off saying she is the last of the original club kids when she is more Dorian Corey. ( I wonder what Vivacious has stuffed in her trunk?)
Milk on the other hand carries on the Pyramid Club tradition of drag. Terry Toy, Sister Dimension etc. Winner of 'club kid' title. Obvious.

David, you know that contestants are marked down when they appear too butch, too goth or just too outside the box. Ru wants ladies, not experiments in drag. You can understand the pulse of the show when they told the Hawaiian party woman to "sissy that face." FEMALE illusion is the name of the game.

Then how did Sharon Needles win?

Sharon Needles won because she toned down the scary. I remember one particular episode where Visage told her to take out those white contact lenses! She got grief more than once for being a bit too scary so she got with the program.

David, I also want to say this about DR. Ru Paul really does set the tone and expectations for the show and you see it in how he dresses. It's always a long gown, flawless face and hair. If anyone could think outside the box about what Drag could be, it's RuPaul, but he doesn't. In part to protect his brand but also because he's showing what he expects from his gurls.
